On Belt / Conveyor Microwave Moisture Measurement Technique
The MOISTSCAN MA-500 HD Series II’s result for moisture content is determined by measuring the effect that process material has on a microwave signal being passed through it. This signal is emitted from a transmitting antenna, housed in the lower arm of the frame which is placed under the conveyor belt. The signal is passed up through the process material and then detected by a receiving antenna, housed in the upper arm of the frame.
The microwave signal interacts with any moisture in the process material between the two arms. The degree of interaction is measured and used to derive a value for the amount of total moisture present. This amount of moisture is related to the total amount of process material on the conveyor to yield a measurement of total moisture as a percentage.
Health and Safety
The MOISTSCAN MA-500 HD Series II is designed to use low level microwave radiation. The microwave power emitted from the lower antenna is less than 10 mW (10 dBm). This radiation level is restricted to the region directly between the two antennae, which is normally inaccessible due to the conveyor belt. Microwave emissions are virtually undetectable further than 1m from the MOISTSCAN MA-500 HD Series II.
