Lead is a main-group element with symbol Pb (Latin: plumbum) and atomic number 82. It is a soft, malleable poor and also counted as one of the heavy metals. Metallic lead does occur in nature, but rare. Lead is usually found in ore with zinc, silver and (most abundantly) copper and extracted together with these metals. The main lead mineral is galena (PbS), which contains 86.6% lead.
